Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front Minister Sajith Premadasa says the lack of political will and the lack of knowledge pertaining to issues faced by women in the country have resulted in females being side-lined from the decision-making process.
Speaking during an event in Colombo today, Minister Premadasa said under his rule, when formulating national economic policies, women will play a key role.
The Minister also pledged to establish a National Independent Women’s Commission to address concerns faced by females.
Minister Premadasa said issues faced by women are disregarded during the legislative process owing to the lack of political will and because the political leadership lacks knowledge about the problems faced by women.
He noted he will establish an Independent Women’s Commission within a week from his appointment as President, in order to resolve issues faced by women.
The Presidential candidate added the expertise of women will be used while also considering their issues when formulating national economic policies.
