‘SL can’t isolate itself in a competitive world’

Presidential candidate of the National Movement for People’s Power Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake says Sri Lanka cannot isolate itself in the present competitive world and achieve economic targets.

The National Economic Policy of the National Movement for People’s Power was unveiled today.

Speaking during the event, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake stressed the importance of working closely with international partners in areas of technology, economy and knowledge.

He said they always appointed leaders in a bid to connect the country with major developed nations and pointed out that while the world rapidly progressed in technology, economy and knowledge, Sri Lanka fell behind.

MP Dissanayake stressed that Sri Lanka is instead moving at snail pace.

He noted that in order to be parallel with the international community the country must embrace world trends, technology, and development.

The Presidential candidate noted that the country cannot be left to be isolated adding that for example the Chinese produce cotton, the Koreans deliver the thread while Sri Lanka manufactures apparel that is worn by eskimos.

MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the world economy is interconnected, highlighting that no one can propose to isolate the country and survive in this world.

Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake also stressed that the state must strengthen foreign ties in order to facilitate the local entrepreneurs reach the global market.

The MP said Sri Lanka must obtain dollar loans from the government and must disburse them amongst entrepreneurs.

He urged Sri Lanka must win over the world and strengthen foreign relations in the process.

MP Dissanayake however pointed out that the state must lead the way in improving foreign ties.

He also stated that the private sector must also contribute to this endeavour with the state setting targets and goals.
