SLFP decides to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to support Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the 2019 Presidential Election.
Speaking during a media briefing at the party headquarters Senior Vice-Chairman of the SLFP Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala de Silva said a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the two parties within the next few days.
He explained the constitution of the alliance contains many new ideas with focus on the economy, good governance, limiting the Cabinet of Ministers to 30 and the appointment of the Cabinet based on a scientific method, among others which have all been proposed by the SLFP.
The MP said the party decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding after these factors were agreed to, adding furthermore attention was directed to how joint committees will be formulated for election campaigning.
He stressed the SLFP will work dedicatedly towards the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile joining the media briefing General Secretary of the SLFP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said President Maithripala Sirisena has decided to follow a centrally aligned course of action till the conclusion of the Presidential Election.
MP Jayasekara said the SLFP will provide its complete strength and support to Gotabaya Rajapaksa, adding the SLFP will independently protect its respect and strength and proceed with its course of action.
He noted last night the party politburo convened under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The MP stated that the President decided to follow a centrally aligned path for the upcoming Election, as he is the President and the Minister in charge of the Police and other security forces.
He highlighted that this is the first time in Sri Lankan history that a President has stopped supporting his party to a certain level, and created an environment for the Presidential Election to be held in a free and fair manner.
