Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, who was arrested yesterday, has been remanded till the 29th of January.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Wasantha Kumara this afternoon.

The MP was arrested last evening by officers of the Colombo Crimes Division at his official residence in Madiwela following an arrest warrant issued by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.

Attorney General Dappula De Livera yesterday instructed the CCD to obtain an arrest warrant for MP Ramanayake and to produce him before Court.

The Attorney General informed the CCD that legal action can be taken against MP Ramanayake on charges of violating the Constitution and interfering with the functions of the judiciary, over investigations being conducted into the recordings of phone calls obtained from the MP’s residence.
