President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed officials to grant farming families affected by the drought a monthly allowance of 10,000 rupees.

The Head of State also instructed to appoint a committee comprising Divisional Secretaries, Grama Niladhari Officers and Samurdhi Officers and obtain information on farmers affected by the drought and provide the allowance from the end of March until the end of the Yala season.

The President also instructed officials to provide rice at concessionary rates and ordered the process to be conducted stringently.

Furthermore, President Sirisena called for clean drinking water to be provided.

The President commenting on the possible power crisis added the funds required to ensure an uninterrupted power supply will be obtained from the Treasury.
