Danushka Gunathilaka to miss NZ T20
January 10, 2019
Sri Lanka opener Danushka Gunathilaka will miss tomorrow’s one off Twenty20 International against New Zealand due to an injury.
Sri Lanka Cricket in a statement said Danushka Gunathilaka suffered a lower back pain during Sri Lanka’s third ODI game against New Zealand while fielding.
In the absence of Gunathilaka Kusal Perera is likely to open at the Eden Park. Eden Park is braced for an avalanche of boundaries as both sides look to cash in on the ground’s short boundaries.
Sri Lanka, ranked four spots below their hosts in the World T20 rankings in ninth, have yet to win a match on their tour of New Zealand having lost both the Test and ODI series.
Seamer Tim Southee will lead New Zealand in the Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in the absence of rested skipper Kane Williamson.
Colin de Grandhomme and paceman Trent Boult will also sit out the match in Auckland, as will big-hitting James Neesham who is sidelined with a hamstring strain.
All-rounder Doug Bracewell comes into the squad for Neesham, while Mitchell Santer could make his first international appearance since March 2018 after returning from a knee injury.
