Kandy Tuskers secured an all-important 25-run victory over Galle Gladiators in the Game Six of the 2020 Lanka Premier League tournament.

The Tuskers batting first posted a respectable 196/5 in their 20 overs with former Zimbabwe captain Brendon Taylor making 51 not out off 35 balls.

Kusal Mendis scored 49 from 30 balls.

For the Gladiators Lakshan Sandakan picked up 2/41. Chasing 197 runs to secure their first win of the tournament, Gladiators batsmen struggled to keep up with the increasing run rate.

They lost wickets at regular intervals with Danushka Gunathilaka stranded on one end.

Sri Lanka opener Gunathilaka went on to make a brilliant 82 off 53 balls before he was runout.

Despite the effort, Gladiators could not reach the target and finished on 171/7 in their 20 overs.

Five Tuskers’ bowlers picked up a wicket apiece showing both intent and depth of the side heading to the business end of the tournament.

In yesterday’s other match, Jaffna Stallions defeated Dambulla Viiking by 66 runs to top the LPL Points Table.

Later today, Viiking will take on Colombo Kings at 3.30pm while Stallions will face Kandy Tuskers in the LPL Game Eight at 8pm in Hambantota.
