Nalanda College Colombo defeated traditional rivals Ananda College by 16 runs via the Duckworth and Lewis method to lift the PDS Kularatne Challenge Trophy during the 45th annual limited overs cricket encounter at the SSC Grounds in Colombo this evening.
Chasing 198 runs to secure hattrick of wins over their arch-rivals, the Nalandians were on 141 for 5 in 33.1 overs when heavy rain forced players off the field.
With rain persisting over the SSC skies, umpires decided to call off the game and handed the Nalandians a well deserved 16-run win.
Jayod Kaldera remained unbeaten on 34 at the close while Chamindu Wijesinghe hit a quick-fire 29.
Paceman Sudeepa Agulugaha showcased his prowess against his rivals, by taking all five Nalanda wickets to fall today.
However Agulugaha’s 5 for 28 was not enough for his team to register a win.
Earlier in the morning Ananda College after winning the toss and electing to bat first, managed to muster 197 in 48 overs.
Kalana Wijesiri top scored with 46 while Nadeesha Karunarathna contributed with a better than run-a-ball 43.
For Nalanda, Raveen de Silva picked up 4/50 and Lakshitha Manasinghe had figures of 3/53.
