Twenty20 Skipper Lasith Malinga says he is prepared to step down from his role as Captain, if the leadership is responsible for the defeat in the India T20I series.

Speaking to media upon the team’s return to the country Malinga said changing the Captain of the T20 team, if the rest of the team does not perform is futile.

Lasith Malinga cited players’ inexperience as the reason for the defeat.

He said the team failed to perform well in all departments during the India tour adding that he believes the players’ individual performances must better in order to compete with a strong T20 team like the Indian side.

Malinga noted the new coaches who joined the Lankan side must be given an opportunity to carry forward the sport in the country and create players who will perform well internationally.

He added introducing new players sporadically will not serve this purpose adding that the existing players must be given more opportunities to improve.

Lasith Malinga said various statements can be made outside the field, while stating however that results will only show based on how players perform with experience.
