Scotland take on Russia in Shizuoka in the intriguing Pool A at the Rugby World Cup at 12.45pm local time today.

While the Russians are playing their final game after defeats to Japan, Samoa and Ireland, Scotland need a handsome, bonus-point win to boost their quarter-final hopes ahead of Sunday’s decisive clash against the hosts in Yokohama.

Pool A is very tight and bonus points and points difference could come into the final equation should any sides be level on points, but the first deciding outcome is their head to head record in the tournament.

This will be the first test between Scotland and Russia, who have been plucky at best in Japan and the Bears are still chasing their first World Cup win after losing all seven of their previous matches.

Scotland’s best finish was in 1991 when they reached the semi-finals.

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend on Monday made 14 changes for today’s World Cup meeting with Russia.

Key players are rested for a potential winner-takes-all meeting with Pool A leaders Japan on Sunday.
