Sri Lanka will recommence its first-class club cricket tournament next week.
Sri Lanka Cricket said steps have been taken to re-start the premier tournament on the 14th of July, and is expected to run until the 3rd of August.
This will be the first cricket tournament to be played in the country after the suspension of all cricketing events in March due to the COVID-19 crisis.
SLC said steps have been taken to follow health and safety guidelines issued by the Ministries of Health and Sports when staging the tournament.
The International Cricket Council has also been notified over the matter.
Several guidelines have been issued to players to be followed on the field, in dressing rooms and outside of stadiums.
Stadiums will be permitted to fill 20% of its capacity during matches.
The First-Class Tier 1 tournament was suspended on the 16th of March when Sri Lanka reported several COVID-19 cases.
The Colombo Cricket Colombo topped the ‘A’ category while the Chilaw Marians led the B category of the points table when the tournament was suspended in March.
Accordingly, CCC, NCC, Colts, Sri Lanka Army, Saracens, BRC and the Ragama Sports Club have qualified for the Super 8 stage of the first-class tournament.
