Sri Lanka geared for a tricky New Zealand series with a solid batting display during the three-day practice game against a New Zealand XI side in Napier.
After opting to bat first Sri Lanka only mustered 210 for 9 in the first innings with Angelo Mathews scoring an unbeaten 128. The hosts went on to make 270 for 8, providing the Lankan bowlers with a heavy workout in the field.
Sri Lanka however displayed an improved performance during the second essay, with Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis making fifties.
Gunathilaka and Mendis who were both dismissed for a duck in the first innings, scored 83 and 72 respectively. Lahiru Thirimanne notched up 45 while free-flowing Niroshan Dickwella scored an unbeaten 43-ball 56.
Sri Lanka is scheduled to play two Test matches, three One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 encounter during the six-week long tour.
The opening game of the two-match Test series will get underway from 15th of this month in Wellington.
