Suspect arrested over fake job racket

An individual has been arrested in Walassmulla on charges of deceiving individuals of money, promising job opportunities in Seychelles.

The arrest was made by officers of the Special Investigations Division of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

It was reported that the arrested individual operated an illegal foreign employment agency in Kadawatha and made it a requirement that all individuals who sought jobs via the agency pay a mandatory fee of 100,000 rupees as a down payment.

It was revealed that the licenced owner of the agency was in remand custody over motor accident reported in Nepal last year.

Upon investigating approximately 200 passports of various individuals were seized.

Steps are being taken to blacklist the license of the agency. The arrested individual is due to be produced before the Mahara Magistrates Court today.
