Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya has been banned from bowling in international cricket for one year.

When contacted by NewsRadio Chairman of Selectors Asantha de Mel said the decision was passed on to Sri Lanka Cricket and the player yesterday by the International Cricket Council.

Dananjaya will be banned from bowling till the 29th of August 2020.

Dananjaya was reported for his bowling action during the first Test against New Zealand at Galle.

Dananjaya travelled to Sri Ramachandra Institute in Chennai for the bio mechanical assessment.

As per the reports, Dananjaya’s standard delivery was inconsistent and ranged from 4-17 degrees.

Several deliveries went over the permitted limit of 15 degrees.

The data in the report was verified by the ICC’s Human Movement Specialist.

The assessment revealed that his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.

Dananjaya, was in February this year cleared to bowl after his action was re-tested.
