The Colombo Traffic Lane Regulations including the enforcement of the Priority Bus Lane pilot project will continue tomorrow and Friday as well.
The Police Headquarters said the pilot project will continue along the Galle road, High Level road, Baseline road and along the Sri Jayewardenepura road.
Speaking to NewsRadio, the Director, Motor Traffic and Road Safety of Sri Lanka Police, SSP Indika Hapugoda said officials will not impose fines or take legal action against motorists who violate the regulations during the next two days.
The Traffic Lane Regulations including the enforcement of the Priority Bus Lane pilot project will be strictly enforced along the four roads in Colombo between 6am and 10pm daily, from Monday, the 21st of September.
SSP Indika Hapugoda noted that Police will take strict action against motorists who violate the traffic lane regulations from Monday.
He said based on the notice issued on the 15th of January 2018, on 33 traffic violations, motorists who violate the Traffic Lane Regulations can be fined up to Rs.2,000.
He added that the trial project was successfully conducted from Monday and noted that several shortcomings were identified.
SSP Indika Hapugoda noted since a majority of three-wheeler drivers and motorcyclists had failed to adhere to the new regulation during the trial period, heavy traffic was observed in certain areas.
He said therefore all buses, three-wheelers and motorcycles were directed to travel along the left side of the roads and will be required to do so in future
