General Election voting time extended by 1 hour

The voting period at the August 5th General Election has been extended an hour.

Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya issuing a statement said voting at the 2020 General Election will take place between 7.00 am and 5.00 pm on the 5th of August.

The Election Commission considered extending the voting period as the usual 7.00 am to 4.00 pm voting period will be insufficient given the health guidelines that are required to be adhered to by voters and officials on election day.

Voting over the years has been conducted between 7.00 am and 4.00 pm.
