The Court of Appeal today rejected the preliminary objection filed by Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, challenging the jurisdiction of the Special High Court to hear a case filed against him.

The objection was filed against the hearing of the case filed against Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on charges of misappropriating public funds during the tenure of the United People’s Freedom Alliance-led government to construct the DA Rajapaksa Museum in Weeraketiya.

Accordingly the three-member bench comprising of Justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne decided to hear the case continuously at the Permanent High Court at Bar.

The Court also ordered officials to record statements from the defence on the 22nd of this month.

Charges were filed against seven persons for misappropriating public funds during the tenure of the UPFA-led government for the construction of the DA Rajapaksa Museum in Weeraketiya.
